According to KFSN, 73-year-old Victor Bejarano was in the parking lot of an auto parts store when he was approached by the unidentified woman.
The woman demanded that Bejarano hand over his wallet to her, something he was unwilling to do, having just recently finished replacing everything after losing his wallet six months ago.
However, the woman continued to demand he give her his wallet and began to attack him when he continued to refuse. The entire incident was caught on surveillance cameras.
“In the beginning she told me, ‘You wouldn’t hit a woman,’ and I said, ‘You’re not a woman. I mean, you’re attacking me,'” Bejarano explained.
The two individuals struggled outside in the parking lot for a moment before their scuffle moved inside the store, where the other customers merely stood and watched the fight.
“You see patrons inside the store,” said Fresno police Sgt. Mark Hudson. “They’re looking at her assaulting him. He continues to struggle, continues not to be a victim of a robbery.”
The brawl moved through the store and out a back door, until finally someone announced that the police had been called and were on their way to the store. At that, the woman stopped her assault, returned to her vehicle and left the scene.
For his part, Bejarano stuck around after the assault to purchase the part he needed for his friend’s van, which the retired mechanic was helping to fix.
He explained that if the woman had simply approached him in a different manner, things wouldn’t have ended up as they did.
“But if she told me ‘Hey, I have family I’ve got kids, I would’ve given her $10,” he said.
Hopefully somebody who watches this surveillance camera footage recognizes the woman and alerts the police as to her identity and location, so she can face justice for assaulting an elderly Vietnam veteran.
