WH Voicemail Called out Democrats for Shutting Down Gov't

Share

Due to the government shutdown, the White House’s public comment telephone line was not accepting calls over the weekend.

When anyone called the White House, they heard a recording that put the blame right where it belonged — on Democrats.

“Unfortunately, we cannot answer your call today because Congressional Democrats are holding government funding — including funding for our troops and other national security priorities — hostage to an unrelated immigration debate,” the recording said.

“Due to this obstruction, the government is shut down.”

Liberals, predictably, were outraged by this message, calling it unprofessional and divisive, but the message that Democrats are to blame is clear.

The government shut down after midnight Saturday when Senate Democrats and some Republicans failed to come to an agreement on a last-minute deal to fund its operations.

Democrats blocked a 28-day resolution to keep the government open, which would have funded the government, including a six-year extension of funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

Fox News reported that Democrats, however, did not accept the resolution, because it did not include a legislative fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which Trump repealed in September.

Do you think the message is a good idea?

Trump blamed Democrats for being more concerned about illegal immigrants than American citizens.

“Democrats are far more concerned with Illegal Immigrants than they are with our great Military or Safety at our dangerous Southern Border. They could have easily made a deal but decided to play Shutdown politics instead,” he tweeted\ on Saturday.

The White House also issued a statement that called out Democrats.

“Tonight, they put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country’s ability to serve all Americans,” the statement said, reported Reuters.

It also said it would not discuss immigration until the government was running again.

“We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands. This is the behavior of obstructionist losers, not legislators,” it said.

That about sums it up.

On Monday, Congress reached a deal to temporarily reopen the government, but it remains to be seen how long that may last.
