Trump Staffer Humiliates CNN's Acosta by Showing He Has Trouble With Simple Addition

Share

After CNN’s Jim Acosta tried to say a federal government shut down would be on President Donald Trump and Republicans, a top Trump staffer exposed  Accosta’s apparent difficulty with simple addition.

On Friday afternoon, just prior to the government officially shutting down, White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney and White House Director of Legislative Affairs Marc Short spoke to the press in the briefing room about encouraging Democrats to vote in favor of funding the government.

As noted by The Daily Caller, Acosta asked Mulvaney why Republicans needed support from Democrats to keep the government open when they control the White House, Senate and House of Representatives.

“How can it be the Schumer shutdown when Republicans control the White House, the House and the Senate?” Acosta asked.

Mulvaney took Acosta to the tool-shed over his inability to use basic math.

“Come on you know the answer to that as well as anybody,” Mulvaney fired back.

“I have to laugh when people say that … you know as well as anybody that it takes 60 votes in the Senate to pass an appropriations bill.”

In the Senate, it takes 60 votes to pass a government spending bill. Republicans currently control 51 seats, meaning they would need at least 9 votes from Democrats – assuming all Republicans voted for it – to reach the threshold.

“I know that,” Acosta admitted.

Do you think Democrats are responsible for the federal government shutdown?

“So when you only have 51 votes in the Senate than you have to have Democrat support in order to … fund the government,” Mulvaney said.

Watch the short clip below with Mulvaney teaching Acosta how to use basic math:

The “Schumer Shutdown,” was in reference to a hashtag that has gone viral across social media.

Because the government officially shut down late Friday night, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Democrats have made it clear they are prioritizing roughly 800,000 illegal immigrant beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program over paying our troops, securing our borders, and funding the CHIP medical program for children.

The deadline for a legislative solution to DACA is March 5, but Democrats demanded that granting amnesty to the roughly 800,000 illegal children be tied to a government spending bill.

As reported by The New York Times, Republicans have made it clear they want funding for the border wall, an end to chain migration, and the diversity immigration lottery. Democrats said no, and allowed the government to shut down.

Its unclear when the government will reopen or when Congress will reach a deal, but seeing Acosta get absolutely obliterated for not understanding simple math is incredible.

The White House has already had a few notable scuffles with Acosta, but this may be the best take-down of all.
