Trump Brought National Prayer Event to Its Feet With Special 9-Year-Old Guest

Share

While speaking at Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump brought the crowd to its feet when he mentioned a special guest who has survived incredible odds.

That guest was 9-year old Sophia Maria Campa Peters, who suffers from a rare, but crippling brain disease.

Sophia, from Brownfield, Texas, has undergone several surgeries and has suffered from strokes that left her partially paralyzed.

The president told the crowd that Sophia is a symbol of hope.

“Sophia suffers from a rare disease that has caused her to have many strokes. At one point, the doctors told Sofia that she would not be able to walk. Sophia replied, ‘If you’re only going to talk about what I can’t do, then I don’t want to hear it. Just let me try to walk,'” the president said.

“She tried, and she succeeded. And one of her doctors even told her mom — and they’re right here in the front row where they should be — ‘This little girl has God on her side,'” he continued.

At those words, everyone in the room rose to their feet and applauded the brave young girl.

Trump mentioned that two weeks ago, when Sophia needed to undergo a high-risk surgery, she asked the whole world to pray for her. Her goal was to reach 10,000 people.

Do you believe in the power of prayer?

“On January 24th, as Sophia went into surgery, she far surpassed her goal. Millions and millions of people lifted Sophia up in their prayers. Today, we thank God that Sophia is with us, and she’s recovering, and she’s walking very well,” the president said.

The president called the little girl a hero.

“You may only be 9-years-old, but you are already a hero to all of us in this room, and all over the world. Thank you, Sophia,” Trump told her.

Sophia first gained national attention last month when White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders mentioned her during a news briefing. It was then the nation first heard about Sophia’s goal to reach 10,000 people and ask them for prayer.

As Trump pointed out, millions of people prayed for this strong and brave little girl.

It is awesome that Trump mentioned Peters at this event, focusing on her tenacity and the power of prayer.
