Sone Maniphonh, a refugee from Laos who operates the Asian World Market in St. Louis, does not play around, and one armed thug learned this lesson the hard way on Jan. 4.
That day, the thug entered her store, pulled out a gun and demanded she hand over her cash. Given that she does not even make that much money in the first place, she wasn’t about to hand over anything to the punk.
So instead of complying, Maniphonh quickly pulled her own gun and pointed it at the thug, who then fired four shots at her while making his getaway. She fired back as well, though she missed, as did the thug.
“I thank God the bullets missed me,” she later told KTVI.
“When they come I have to fight back,” she added. “I don’t give up.”
And she meant it. When a thug tried to rob her four years ago, she did the same thing and stood her ground like a champ.
That thug wound up being found and arrested, though the latest perpetrator, described as a black male in his 20s with a medium build and wearing a green hoodie, still remained on the loose.
As for Maniphonh, she and her husband, both of whom operate the store together, are considering retiring — but certainly not out of fear. They are nearing retirement age.
What they don’t worry about are thugs running off with all their money. Thanks to the Second Amendment, that is one concern that will never bother them.
