Santa Anna police are working to identify a suspect who viciously attacked an 83-year-old man Friday morning, according to KABC.
Surveillance footage shows Tuyen Nguyen was attacked around 6:10 a.m.in the 5000 block of West Edinger Avenue.
Nguyen was taking his daily walk to get a newspaper and coffee at a nearby restaurant when the suspect attacked him without apparent reason or warning. Nguyen said he has seen the assailant in the parking lot before.
Watch the video below, but be warned — it is graphic.
Nguyen suffered a brain hemorrhage with a broken eye socket and is hospitalized in critical condition.
“He was thinking about my mom, and he was afraid he was going to die,” said Pete Nguyen, the victim’s son.
Nguyen and his wife left Vietnam to pursue a better life in America — which didn’t include senseless attacks for no reason.
Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department said of Nguyen’s attacker,”What his motive was, whether he was intoxicated, on drugs, having mental issues, we don’t know because we don’t know who this individual is.
“But we don’t want it to happen to somebody else,” he added.
Nguyen’s family says the video is difficult to watch, but they hope it brings justice to the thug who did this.
“We hope that the gentleman would be apprehended,” said Pete Nguyen, “We hope it will not be happening to somebody else, another family. We definitely don’t want anybody else to go through what we had to go through.”
The assailant was described as being between the ages of 40 and 50, 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighing around 160 pounds.
Police have increased patrols in the area and were seeking the public’s help identifying and tracking down the suspect.
Police are asking anyone with information about the attacker in this video to contact Santa Ana police at (714) 493-9135 or Orange County Crime Stoppers at (855) TIP-OCCS.
