Fallen Officer's Daughter Brings Room to Tears With Touching Statement to Grieving Mother
Innocent children often say exactly what people need to hear, even if they are too young to know it.
The biblical verse of Psalms 8:2 recognized that universal truth over two thousand years ago, and reminded the world that “from the mouths of children” can come words of strength.
That’s exactly what happened during an emotional and moving vigil in Colorado, where a community remembered a young police officer who was shot and killed while trying to help others.
“Gracie Parrish spoke at Mission Hills Church Monday evening in Littleton where she and her family remembered Zackari Parrish, 29, who was shot dead while responding to a call from a Highlands Ranch, Colorado apartment,” reported The Daily Mail.
The window of the slain officer tried to put on a brave face, but was clearly distraught as she spoke to citizens who had come to the vigil to pay their respects and show their support for Parrish’s family.
“I am overwhelmed with by the love and support of the community and of the nation. Never in my world would I have imagined this,” Gracie said through tears. “I will raise my girls to love you,” she promised to her late husband.
Her four-year-old daughter sensed that the crying mother was in pain. In a powerful moment caught on camera, the child leaned in and whispered these words. “It’s OK momma, it’s OK. Just be happy.” The touching scene begins at 1:33 in the video below:
The incident that left one cop’s family grieving caused both emotional and physical scars for many others. In addition to Officer Parrish, four other officers were also injured during the ambush before the shooter could be killed.
“Deputy Mike Doyle, 28, Deputy Taylor Davis, 30, Deputy Jeffrey Pelle, 32, – all of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office – and 41-year-old Castle Rock Police Officer Tom O’Donnell were injured,” stated the Mail.
That sickening attack now appears to have been planned well in advance, and it was revealed that the gunman streamed the deadly confrontation on the online video service Periscope.
The attacker had reportedly been drinking and was emotionally distraught over a personal relationship. The suspect — known to be a vocal critic of law enforcement — called 911 in an apparent ruse to bring cops to his apartment, then barricaded himself inside a bedroom and opened fire at responding officers.
That sad and deadly decision will not be soon forgotten, and it will impact the late Officer Zackari Parrish’s wife and daughters for the rest of their lives.
There is no way to make the consequences disappear. The loss is deeply felt… but with time, love, and support, the words of the officer’s innocent daughter will become true. It might take a while, but it’s going to be okay.
