Sometimes the fighting that takes place in the Middle East can seem “far away” to those of us safe at home in the United States, so when video footage of the terrorists receiving justice surfaces … well, we often just can’t help but watch.
Video footage recently emerged of the moment an Islamist fighter and his Syrian activist cameraman were killed by a Syrian Arab Army artillery shell in northern Hama, Syria.
The 40-second video showed a bearded fighter, believed to be fighting with the Islamist allied Ajnad al-Sham, describing his joy at capturing Tal Sukayk in the Hama countryside, according to U.K. Daily Mail.
The Islamist fighter spoke to the camera for just a few seconds before an artillery shell fatally crashed down directly on to the fighter and his cameraman, Ahmed Abu Hamza.
“Thank God, it turned out to be easier than we thought despite the fact that this position was very important,” the fighter said before the attack.
Seconds later, a flash of flames and a cloud of smoke filled the screen, and the still-operating camera captured the men’s fateful screams of agony.
So, maybe not so easy as all that. Watch the video here:
Some early reports wrongly claimed the men were fighting for the Islamic State group and that they had been killed in a French mortar round, but it is now believed that the Islamist fighter who was killed was part of the Islamist group Ajnad al-Sham.
The group, along with Al Qaeda-affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra and Ahrar al-Sham, make up a three-faction alliance whose main goal is to fight against Assad and Russian forces in the area.
