NRA Sends Chilling Message to Anti-Gun Parkland Students Politicizing Tragedy

Share

NRATV has become a magnet for controversy since the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last month. Things aren’t going to get any easier for them, one imagines, after the gauntlet that one of their hosts threw down just before the March for Our Lives on Saturday.

In a chilling video posted Friday, according to The Hill, host Colion Noir told the Parkland survivors politicizing the tragedy to advocate for gun control that “nobody would know your names” if their school resource officer acted like a Maryland high school resource officer that shot and killed an armed student earlier this week.

The resource officer at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, Scot Peterson, has come under heavy criticism for his refusal to enter the building during the Feb. 14 shooting.

“To all the kids from Parkland getting ready to use your First Amendment to attack everyone else’s Second Amendment at your march on Saturday, I wish a hero like (Officer) Blaine Gaskill had been at Marjory Douglas High School last month because your classmates would still be alive and no one would know your names, because the media would have completely and utterly ignored your story, the way they ignored his,” Noir said.

“They’re running Season 5 of their gun-control reality show, featuring the freshest cast of characters yet in their modern march on Washington,” Noir continued.

“Except this time for less freedom. These kids ought to be marching against their own hypocritical belief structure.”

Peterson resigned shortly after the shooting after coming under heavy criticism for his failure to enter the building.

“Two coaches went in and were shielding kids and throwing themselves in front of bullets and he did nothing,” Stoneman Douglas senior Brandon Huff said, according to the Orlando Sun-Sentinel.

Meanwhile, Gaskill has been hailed as a hero after his actions at Great Mills High School in Lexington Park, Maryland.

“Gaskill, a 34-year-old SWAT-trained officer of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, was working as the school’s resource officer when a student opened fire in a first-floor hallway, striking a female student and possibly a male classmate,” The Washington Post reported early last week.

“Gaskill confronted the shooter as students and teachers scrambled for cover. Both fired their weapons, and the gunman was fatally wounded. Gaskill was not injured.”

The story noted that “Gaskill’s rapid response was hailed for short-circuiting the attack before it became another school massacre.

“St. Mary’s County Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron said there was ‘no question’ that the officer’s quick arrival at the scene and immediate engagement with the shooter had prevented more injuries,” the Post reported. “Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) praised Gaskill as ‘a tough guy’ and promised to push for a $125 million package that includes more funding for school resource officers.”

Whether or not the juxtaposition was apt, NRATV’s decision to draw such a blunt comparison between the two is going to ruffle feathers.

Almost immediately after the Stoneman Douglas shooting, Everytown for Gun Safety and one of its subsidiaries launched a petition to have the streaming channel removed from four major streaming platforms run by Apple, Google, Amazon and Roku.

Roku responded that since the channels are curated by users, there was no reason for them to remove NRATV from their choice of channels; users could simply choose not to add it or to remove it. The other three giants stayed away from addressing the issue. In the wake of this video, however, that could change.
