As is all too common in Muslim majority nations, a young Afghan woman was forced to marry an older man against her will as part of an arranged marriage.
However, the young woman had other plans, and attempted to elope with another man her same age who she actually wanted to marry, according to NDTV.
Unfortunately, the young woman named Rokhsahana was caught and punished severely for her actions — specifically, she was thrown in a pit and stoned to death by the men of her village of Ghalmeen.
A terrible video of her horrific death was posted to YouTube. It showed the men almost casually pelting the screaming woman with stones until she was finally dead.
The brutal killing of the young woman took place in the Afghan province of Ghor, and has been denounced by the provincial governor, Seema Joyenda, one of only two female governors in all of Afghanistan.
Rokhsahana had been “stoned to death by Taliban, local religious leaders and irresponsible armed warlords,” declared Joyenda.
Joyenda is now calling on the central government in Kabul to take immediate action to “clear the area” of the Taliban influence.
“This is the first incident in this area but will not be the last. Women in general have problems all over the country, but especially in Ghor,” she said.
“The man with whom she was eloping has not been stoned,” she also noted.
Unfortunately, this sort of barbaric behavior — not to mention the hypocritical double standard — happens far too often in countries like Afghanistan that are largely controlled by Muslim groups that embrace a strict interpretation of Islam.
