James Woods Unloads Profane Tirade After GOP Pushes Omnibus Through - 'I Never Imagined...'

This budget battle isn’t going away.

While Capitol Hill conservatives practically begged President Donald Trump to veto the massive $1.3 trillion spending plan he signed Friday, and right-wing commentators denounced it as a “disgrace,” one of the few vocal conservatives in Hollywood really weighed in.

And when James Woods has a point to make, he doesn’t hold back.

In a twitter posting published early Friday, just after the Republican-controlled Senate passed the bill, Woods resorted to some ugly language about the party and profanely predicted a Democrat victory in the fall midterm elections. (The version below has been modified slightly to clean up the language. You can see the original here.)

Even with the crudity blotted out, there’s not much left to the imagination, is there?

In signing the bill Friday afternoon, Trump acknowledged it had elements he didn’t like, but said the increased funding for a military that had been neglected during the Obama years made him able to stomach it.

“There are a lot of things that I’m unhappy about in this bill. There are a lot of things that we shouldn’t have had in this bill. But we were, in a sense, forced to if we want to build our military,” he said.

Well, there are a lot of things Trump’s base should be unhappy about, starting with the half-billion dollars it includes for funding Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider and a Holy Grail for Democrats.

Will this bill hurt the Republicans in the midterms?

There’s no getting around the problem here. One reason – if not the reason – Trump won the Republican nomination in 2016 is so many Republican voters have felt for years that the party was not governing the way it campaigned.

Promises of fiscal responsibility and opposition to abortion play well in Republican primaries, but when it comes time to act in Washington, somehow Planned Parenthood keeps its barbaric snout in the public trough, and both parties combine for spending bills like the one Trump signed on Friday.

A Wall Street Journal editorial called it a “Bipartisan Budget Blowout” and there were a lot of good reasons for it – maybe even 1.3 trillion of them.

And always, the promise is “next time, we’ll do better.” Conservatives heard it during the second part of the George W. Bush tenure, when he was saddled with a Democrat Congress. Conservatives heard it during the Obama years, even after the House of Representatives fell under GOP control in the 2010 midterms.

Then they heard it after Republicans won the Senate in 2014. Now, with the House, the Senate and the White House in Republican hands, they’re hearing it again.

House Speaker Paul Ryan did a yeoman’s job defending the bill on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday. Trump sounded stern when he vowed Friday that “I will never sign another bill like this again.”

And maybe that will be enough to convince Republican votes that they got the best deal possible under the circumstances, and turn out at the polls for the midterms to keep Trump’s presidency going strong. But for conservatives like Woods, the bill is going to come back and bite in November. And bite hard.

Check out the comment Woods posted on Twitter after Trump signed the bill:

Those are words they’re going to remember in the White House and on Capitol Hill for a long time to come.
