Hot Mic Catches Trump's Decision on Whether or Not He'll Release FISA Memo

After he delivered the State of the Union address Tuesday, President Donald Trump told a Republican lawmaker that he fully supports the GOP’s mission to publicly release the infamous memo that they claim contains proof the Obama administration spied on his election campaign.

“Let’s release the memo,” South Carolina Republican Rep. Jeff Duncan told Trump as the two briefly hobnobbed on the House floor.

“Oh yeah, don’t worry, 100 percent,” the president replied.

That’s just the answer conservatives wanted to hear.

As of Wednesday, the memo still remains unreleased due to standard bureaucratic hurdles.

“White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told CNN Wednesday that the legal and national security review of the document was continuing, adding that Trump had not read the memo as ‘as of last night prior to and immediately after the State of the Union,'” ABC News reported Wednesday.

Keep in mind the memo just arrived at the White House two days earlier after the House Intelligence Committee reportedly voted Monday to release it. Moreover, committee rules permit the president five days to approve or reject its publication.

Do you plan to read the memo when it's released?

Compiled by House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., the memo outlines how the Obama administration “abused a surveillance program in order to spy on President-elect Donald Trump,” according to The Daily Wire.

Though liberals have objected to the memo’s release on the argument that it contains inaccurate information, two senior FBI officials who reviewed it “could not point to any factual inaccuracies,” an unnamed source told Fox News this week.

The memo is, by all accounts, a factual summary of Obama’s corrupt behavior vis-à-vis Trump’s campaign. It also “claims the FBI abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act over its use of the opposition research dossier on Trump and Russia as part of the case to obtain a FISA warrant for a former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser,” according to CNN.

The “Trump dossier” has since been shown to be a debunked, Democrat-funded propaganda piece. Evidence of that kind of abuse of power by a federal agency would be a bombshell. And that may be the reason Democrats fear its potential release.

In fact, the Democrats even went so far as to draft their own memo that allegedly “lays out the actual facts and show how the majority memo distorts the work of the FBI and the Department of Justice,” as revealed to The Washington Post by the committee’s ranking member, Adam Schiff, a California Democrat.

It remains unclear why Schiff is so ardently opposed to the GOP’s factually accurate memo being released, though Rep. Trey Gowdy suspects it might be to avoid embarrassment.

“My Democratic colleagues didn’t want us to find this information. They did everything they could to keep us from finding this information,” Gowdy said during an appearance Tuesday morning on ‘Fox & Friends,’ as reported by RealClearPolitics.

“I think it will be embarrassing to Adam Schiff once people realize the extent to which he went to keep them from learning any of this. That would be the embarrassment.”

The argument could be made that everything the Democrats have said and done since Donald Trump won the presidential election has been embarrassing, but I suppose that’s another story for another day.
