President Donald Trump has appointed John R. Graham, a senior fellow at the National Center for Policy Analysis, to serve as the principal deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
In a statement published last Friday morning, NCPA president Jim Amos congratulated Graham on his appointment and also praised his “record of accomplishment in many areas of health policy, including payment reform, regulation of drugs and devices, comparing international health systems, and the importance of incentives in medical innovation.”
“Everyone who has worked with Mr. Graham has experienced his collegiality, humor, intelligence and organizational and thought leadership,” Amos added. “Although we are sorry to lose him from our team, we know his new colleagues – and the American people – will benefit greatly from his skills and drive to put patients before politicians in health reform.”

What remained unknown was how the newly appointed deputy assistant secretary would affect the ongoing debate on how to repeal and replace Obamacare. Judging by columns he had written for Forbes magazine, however, the future looked good.
In a column published last month by Forbes, he lamented the Trump administration being forced — until Obamacare is repealed or replaced — to engage in “the unenviable task of enforcing a law they know harms Americans.”
Even more telling was what he said about the law’s individual mandate during a House Ways and Means Committee meeting three months ago:

“Although it is appealing to conservatives to think that this imposes individual responsibility, in fact what its real effect is is to give cover to significant growth in government spending and government programs,” he asserted.
Clearly, President Trump made a great choice, because this man understands that former President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, is nothing more than a socialist scheme that grows government while robbing the middle class.
And now, with him on the team, the abysmal health care law may just finally get repealed, or so we can hope.
