A Florida man under the influence of drugs brutally assaulted an elderly friend who called him “grandson,” only to receive instant justice from the senior citizen.
Justin Paul Carter was good friends with 74-year-old Michael Frey. Unfortunately, Carter showed up at Frey’s house one day and demanded to speak with Frey’s wife alone. Since he was obviously under the influence, Frey asked Carter to leave, but Carter refused.
That is when Carter launched his attack on his elderly friend, punching him repeatedly in the face and smashing his head into a cabinet.
However, Frey was an armed senior citizen and ultimately pulled his .38 caliber pistol from his pocket and shot Carter once in the face.
Shocked that the old man had shot him, Carter fled from the house in a panic, smashing a window on his way out of the residence.
Carter was shot in the mouth and spent two weeks in the hospital before being arrested and transported to jail by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, according to a press release.
Frey was forced to spend time in the hospital as well, suffering a broken nose, a fractured eye socket and a severe hematoma to his head.
Carter has been charged with aggravated battery of a person older than 65, a crime in Florida that carries a mandatory minimum of three years in prison. He also faces charges of trespassing and property damage.
“This is absolutely a justifiable use of force,” stated Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “This is inexcusable behavior toward a 74-year-old man, and at WCSO we do not accept this kind of behavior toward our senior citizens. In this case, having a firearm saved this man’s life.”
It is a good thing that Michael Frey was armed for his own protection, although he may want to consider upping the caliber of his self-defense weapon, as he has seen for himself the limitations of smaller calibers against drug-addled assailants.
