CNN's Website Has Hilarious Problem Because of Trump's Success

Share

I’m not entirely sure CNN chief Jeff Zucker is a religious man. However, I’m going to assume he is, at least in some way. And every day, as he rises with the morning dawn and draws back the comforter, I imagine he gets on his knees and thanks God (or Jane Fonda) that Donald J. Trump was elected president.

In just a few short years, CNN has transformed itself from “The Official Network of Your Flight is Delayed and Your iPhone Battery is Dead, So You’re Stuck Watching this in the Departure Lounge” to “All Trump-bashing, All The Time.” And, ratings-wise, it’s worked for them. People now watch “The Most Trusted Name In News” in places other than Terminal B at LaGuardia.

The problem is that the picture CNN’s painted of the Trump administration — everything’s in chaos, Trump’s in league with the Russians and is about to be impeached, the country’s going to hell, etc. — isn’t actually what’s happened. And unfortunately, the best laid plans of mice and CNN employees cannot change that fact.

Take, for instance, the “Trump Jobs Tracker.” The Jobs Tracker is a simple website set up by CNN to see if Donald Trump could keep his promise of adding 25 million jobs to the economy in 10 years — or, to break it down by month, 208,333 jobs per month.

Here’s what the Jobs Tracker looked like on Sunday morning:

Oh no! President Trump is off track on a major campaign promise! Well, that’s it, I’m voting Democra– hey, wait. When was the last time this page was updated?

Yes, the last time anyone bothered to update this page was Jan. 5, when most of you still had your Christmas ornaments up. Has anything happened in the interim that may have, you know, changed the relevancy of the information on this page?

Do you think Donald Trump is doing the right thing with the economy?

Does Don Lemon like getting smashed on New Year’s Eve?

According to The Daily Caller, economists estimated that United States added 200,000 jobs in January. This was followed by an extremely robust 313,000 jobs in February. The unemployment rate stood at 4.1 percent for the fifth straight month, which is the lowest number since the 3.9 percent in December of 2000, right before the dot-coms went dot-boom.

In other words, should that trajectory continue, Trump is actually on track.

Of course, this is CNN, “The Most Trusted Name In News.” They’d never neglect a website they put up to shame Trump simply because the numbers changed and it made Trump look good.

Excuse me for a moment. I have to go to urgent care; all the laughing I just did after writing that last line gave me an asthma attack.

OK back. Joe Simonson at The Daily Caller has a few theories for the page’s neglect, including that layoffs in CNN’s digital division may have affected the page’s operation.

That seems slightly unlikely to me, especially since nothing’s happened since Simsonson wrote about it on Saturday (a little less than 24 hours ago as I write this). It’s a lot more likely that the neglect began when the numbers didn’t necessarily match up with the mission.
