Calif. Teacher Who Trashed US Soldiers in Front of Students Gets Overdue Justice

Share

A California school district fired a teacher on Tuesday following his viral rant where he called the military the “lowest of our low.”

The El Rancho Unified School District voted unanimously to fire history teacher and Pico Rivera councilman Gregory Salcido reported Fox News.

“(Salcido’s) comments do not reflect what we stand for, who we are,” El Rancho board of education president Aurora Villon said.

“The classroom should never be a place where students feel that they are picked at, bullied, intimidated.”

Salcido made headlines in January when, after a student wore a Maine Corps sweatshirt to his class, he bashed the armed forces as “dumbs—s” who are not “high-level thinkers.”

The former teacher also allegedly smacked a student he deemed disruptive in 2012.

“We’ve got a bunch of dumbs—s over there,” Salcido said in class.

“Think about the people who you know who are over there — your freaking stupid uncle Louis or whatever, they’re dumbs—s. They’re not, like, high-level thinkers, they’re not academic people, they’re not intellectual people, they’re the freaking lowest of our low. Not morally, I’m not saying they make bad moral decisions, they’re not talented people.”

Do you think he should be banned from serving on the city council?

The former teacher cleared up his remarks at a February Pico Rivera city council meeting.

“I don’t think it’s all a revelation to anybody that those who aren’t stellar students usually find the military a better option,” Salcido said there.

“That’s not a criticism of anybody. Anything I said had nothing to do with their moral character.”

Aside from making headlines, Salcido’s screed earned him attention from White House chief of staff John Kelly, who said the former teacher “ought to go to hell.”

“I just hope he enjoys the liberties and the lifestyle that we have fought for,” Kelly, who retired from the Marine Corps, told Fox News.

“Mayor Gustavo Camacho, supported by Councilmembers Bob Archuleta and David Armenta passed a resolution earlier asking Councilman Salcido to resign from the city council,” city spokesman Robert Alaniz said to The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“The mayor also removed Councilman Salcido from any council committees. Ultimately Councilman Salcido’s tenure on the city council will be determined by the voters in this city.”
