However, four civilians in Texas proved last week that some people still respect our local police forces when they helped a cop subdue a violent suspect.
The Arlington cop was trying to arrest a particularly aggressive man, but because they were near an elementary school, he didn’t want things to escalate. Suddenly, four heroes showed up, seemingly out of nowhere, and assisted the cop in subduing the perp.
Officer Richard Morrison was riding alone when a citizen waved him down for help with a man who was acting violently towards people, NBC Dallas reported.
The man was parked in the middle of the roadway, “acting strangely, being aggressive, lunging at vehicles as they were driving by,” Morrison told the press.
The man had also reportedly threatened a woman with a knife.
When the cop caught up with the man at a red light, he initially pulled his gun out. But, as the man started towards him, he switched to his Taser, shooting it four times to subdue the aggressive man.
But, even laying face-down on the pavement, the man wouldn’t cooperate with the cop and put his hands behind his back. That’s when two bystanders walked up and folded the man’s arms behind his back so that Morrison could cuff him.
Morrison was grateful for the help in the situation.
“It’s an honor, of course, to serve the citizens but to have our citizens serve us as well and recognize there’s an officer that needs help, that’s the best feeling in the world,” he said.
A knife and three loaded guns, including an AK-47, were later found in the the man’s car, according to NBC.
The cop’s dash camera, as well as other passers-by, caught the incident on video. Watch it here:
This situation could have gone much differently and turned out much worse than it did. Thankfully, these heroic civilians were there to help this cop subdue an aggressive suspect before it escalated into something terrible.
