During a March rally in North Carolina for then-GOP primary candidate Donald Trump, local resident John Franklin McGraw momentarily lost his cool and shamelessly sucker-punched a protester who at the time was being led out of the auditorium by authorities.
It was a despicable attack that should have never occurred, but as what transpired at McGraw’s sentencing this Wednesday proved, it had not been rooted in racial animosity or hatred of any kind. It had been rooted instead in a frustrated man simply acting like a bonehead.
What was it that happened this Wednesday that would lead one to believe this? McGraw and his victim, Rakeem Jones, hugged it out in court.
Moreover, McGraw apologized and admitted that he had been caught up in the “political mess” that was the 2016 election, which as many know brought out a lot of anger and trepidation on both sides of the political aisle.
Jones obviously accepted McGraw’s apology — otherwise, he would not have hugged him afterwards — and pledged to work together with his former assailant to heal the country.
Kudos to both McGraw and Jones, whose remarkable display of humility and forgiveness, respectively, ought to serve as a wake-up call to those race hustlers who purposely and maliciously exploit the news to drum up racial animus — race hustlers like Shaun King, for instance, who after the attack nine months ago rushed to paint McGraw as a “racist,” even before he had been identified.
“Help me identify the racist Trump supporter who repeatedly punched this protester in the face last night,” he tweeted at the time.
Help me identify the racist Trump supporter who repeatedly punched this protestor in the face last night.

Yet not surprisingly, by Friday morning King had still not commented on what happened Wednesday. He probably did not care, because like his sleazy race-obsessed ilk, he thrives on hatred and hostility, not love and harmony.
