BREAKING: GOP Senator Calls for Impeachment Over Release of Terrorists
A good case in point is Obama’s latest blunder involving his deal to trade five Gitmo detainees in exchange for one American soldier held captive by the Taliban.
As most people know, the U.S. has an official policy of not negotiating with terrorists, and any release of prisoners from Gitmo requires approval from Congress, both of which “King Obama” ignored.
This course of action by the Obama administration has caused Sen. Lindsey Graham to deliver a stern warning to the president, stating that any more deals like this one that go around Congress will result in impeachment.
via Fox News:
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) warned Wednesday that Republican lawmakers would call for President Obama’s impeachment if he released more prisoners from Guantanamo Bay without congressional approval.
Republicans worry Obama may try to shut down the prison camp unilaterally after congressional opposition has repeatedly stymied efforts to pass legislation to close it.
“It’s going to be impossible for them to flow prisoners out of Gitmo now without a huge backlash,” Graham said. “There will be people on our side calling for his impeachment if he did that.”
Congress tried to build in a safeguard against Obama making unilateral decisions on releasing terrorist detainees by including language in the National Defense Authorization Act requiring the administration to alert Congress of such moves at least 30 days in advance.
Obama did not follow that law when he swapped five senior Taliban commanders for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.
Sen. Graham is correct in calling for Obama to be impeached for superseding Congress. The only problem with his statement is that impeachment shouldn’t be a threat for future action, but actual steps taken now to hold the president accountable for all of the laws he’s already broken.
Obama has proven to be an inept leader who cares little for the rule of law, and many of the decisions he’s made have had devastating consequences. We need to impeach him now.
