It’s not clear whether James Thomas Shoemaker was trying to take advantage of recent protections for men in the women’s bathroom when he walked into a ladies room of Sheetz, a local restaurant in Quarryville, Pennsylvania. But he must have heard about them.
With all of the media attention encouraging the ability of men to use the bathroom of the opposite sex, the 19-year-old was found by police hiding in a stall as he captured pictures of women and young girls.
A 10-year-old girl reported to her mother last week that she saw Shoemaker holding his cell phone over the dividing wall and snapping pictures of her, according to WPMT, Fox 43 in Harrisburg. The mother called police, and officers found Shoemaker still inside the stall when they arrived.
What’s worse is that Shoemaker had been using the bathroom as some kind of sick venue where he could immerse himself in pornography, the station reported. He had been using his phone to browse naked images on the Internet while waiting for the next victim to videotape or photograph without their knowledge.
It’s believed that he was in the stall for about an hour before police arrived and shut down his operation. Police also found naked pictures of Shoemaker’s 16-year-old girlfriend on his phone, adding to his criminal counts.
He was charged with misdemeanor invasion of privacy and felony counts of possession of child pornography.
The case of James Thomas Shoemaker may be telling of what’s to come, as local governments are forced to leave their women unprotected in bathrooms with the media hype over allowing anyone one to use any public bathroom they choose.
