A South Carolina man who recently witnessed a motorist lose control of his vehicle and smash into a tree believed the driver was protected by an angel — and he has a photograph to prove it.
Pastor Michael Clary was traveling on rural highway 252 on Dec. 3 when a Ford Explorer that passed him veered too far to the left, causing the driver to lose control.
The vehicle rolled down the shoulder of the highway several times before colliding with a pine tree.
Clary pulled over and rushed to the scene, where he managed to take a few photographs. It was then he noticed a man curled up beside the vehicle and instantly began praying for his protection.
The victim was airlifted to a hospital, where he was treated for a punctured lung, a broken collar bone and several broken ribs.
He was expected to be released on Dec. 9.
It wasn’t until Clary looked at his photographs later when he saw what he believes was an answer to his prayer — a guardian angel looking over the victim’s body.
This is the photo as enhanced by WHNS:
Lynn Wooten, a cousin of the unnamed victim, agreed with Clary.
“You can see on the picture, on the right-hand side that the angel looks like he’s actually knelt with his hands up praying over him,” she told WHNS.
She believed the angel is one reason her cousin survived the accident. She said there were two angles looking over her cousin that day — the angel in the photograph and Clary, who was the only one who witnessed the crash.
“If nobody had been behind him to see the accident occur, I don’t know how long he would have been there. When the wrecker got there he had to cut the first line of trees to attach it and pull the car out, it was so far in there,” Wooten said.
“Our family strongly believes in guardian angels and that one with him. My cousin was lucky he survived,” she added.
Clary posted the photographs he took to social media, where they’ve received a lot of attention — for obvious reasons.
Angel or not, there’s no doubt Clary was in the right place at the right time.
