If you’re a terrorist with the Islamic State group and you’re planning to sneak across America’s poorly secured southern border, the patriots in the Arizona Border Recon group have bad news for you.
According to KVOA-TV, the Sasabe, Arizona-based group is helping the Border Patrol round up border-crossers who slip into the country illegally from Mexico, including some who might pose a direct security threat to Americans. The group, made up primarily of former armed forces members, seeks to stop any terrorists looking to use the border situation for their nefarious ends.
“There’s Palestinians, Afghans, Syrians trying to get in. We are trying to stop everything and anything from coming across,” said Tim Foley, field operations director for the group.
“We have the war on drugs and the war on terror and it seems that they are combining right here on the border,” said Foley. “We’re not a militia, we’re not a three percent group, we do not advocate overthrowing the government … we are an extra set of eyes and ears for Border Patrol.”
According to Foley, the very fact that someone is coming over the border illegally indicates they’re up to no good.
“When your friends come to your home, they come to your front door, not your back window,” Foley said.
The men with the group insisted that what they were doing is not done out of hate.
“You don’t lock your doors because you hate what’s outside, but because you love what’s inside,” said Arizona Border Recon volunteer Mark McConnell.
In a statement, the Border Patrol welcomed help from civilians, but urged them to work closely with agents, rather than independently.
