We have all seen footage at one point or another of a grief-stricken family sitting in court to bear witness to the trial and sentencing of the criminal who brought the grief upon them.
While most criminals in court are typically quiet and deferential toward the families of their victims, there are those remorseless scumbags who take delight in taunting their victim’s families out of sheer spite or perverse joy.
Just such a thing happened recently in Ohio, as a man who was found guilty of savagely murdering three young women in 2013 decided to taunt the father of one of the victims while he delivered a victim impact statement during a sentencing hearing, according to WEWS.
Van Terry, whose daughter Shirellda Terry was one of the three homicide victims, was delivering his statement when he glanced over and noticed that the defendant, Michael Madison, was grinning tauntingly at him, which compelled Terry to launch himself over the table in a sudden effort to get at his daughter’s murderer.
“This is the type of thing Mr. Madison finds amusing,” proclaimed Cuyahoga County prosecutor Tim McGinty, who added that Madison had shown no remorse for his vile crimes and was nothing more than a “gutless coward.”
Madison had been convicted in May on 14 separate counts that included aggravated murder, kidnapping, rape and abuse of a corpse. Thankfully, Madison was sentenced to death for the litany of atrocious and felonious crimes.
It is not expected that Terry will be charged for his outburst and attempted assault of Madison, as virtually everyone can understand the incredible grief and burning-hot passion he felt regarding the murder of his daughter and the arrogant taunting of the murderer who stole his beloved child from him.
We certainly feel for the grieving father and can only hope that he takes some solace from the fact that his daughter’s murderer will not be harming any other innocent people for the remainder of his now-shortened life.
