President-elect Donald Trump made some strong promises on the campaign trail about illegal immigration and sanctuary cities — promises that have infuriated liberals and caused law-abiding Americans to rejoice.
Trump has taken particular issue with sanctuary cities for good reason. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement released a statement detailing just one example of how sanctuary cities hurt Americans.
Illegal immigrant Winston Enrique Perez Pilarte (also known as Josue Duran-Cortes), 40, was arrested in Philadelphia in July, 2015, on charges of “attempted rape, unlawful sexual contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault, unlawful restraint, endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of minors, indecent assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.”

You’d think those charges would have been enough to hold him for a while, but he was promptly released.
That’s right. Rather than turning him over to ICE offices, the Philadelphia city government decided that the man being charged with rape should simply be released back onto the streets, potentially to prey on even more Americans.
Thankfully, after an intense investigation by ICE, Cortes was arrested in September 2016 and was awaiting a hearing in immigration court to determine his future.

“One of our best resources to keep these dangerous criminals off of our streets and from committing more crimes is for the mayor to honor our detainers and requests for notification,” Enforcement and Removal Operations Philadelphia field office Director Tom Decker explained. “ICE is hopeful that the mayor will work with us to keep our community safe.”
Despite horror stories like this one, Fox News reported that many cities, including Chicago, have pledged to remain sanctuary cities even in the face of threats from President-elect Donald Trump.
These sanctuary cities could lose billions of dollars in federal funding if they chose to defy Trump after he is sworn in, CNN reported. This lose of funding would do enough harm that they might end up changing their tune.
Americans need to be protected from criminal illegals who prey on our population. If that means ruffling a few liberal feathers by eliminating sanctuary cities, so be it.
