Deer are generally thought to be rather docile creatures that are afraid of humans and will choose flight over fight during an encounter.
While that may true for the most part, there was at least one deer in New Jersey who thought otherwise and attempted to exact his revenge after being struck by an SUV at night on a dark road.
According to WPVI, 43-year-old Ellen Sager was driving down the road when a young buck darted out in front of her. After hitting the deer, Sager quickly pulled over to the side of the road and began to exit her vehicle, most likely to assess whatever damage had been caused by the collision.
That is when the deer came charging back across the road toward Sager’s vehicle, using its head to open the driver’s door farther and attempting to enter the vehicle and attack the woman.
The entire incident was caught on the dash cam of a Howell Township Police Department cruiser that happened to be following Sager down the dark road.
The battle between the woman and the deer lasted only a few short seconds but probably felt like an eternity to the no-doubt startled woman, who forced the deer out of her SUV and slammed the door shut again.
Caution: Some may find the content of this video disturbing:
The woman suffered minor injuries in the scuffle. The deer later died from injuries suffered during the initial collision.
“In what appears to be a scene from a cheap comedy, Sager physically struggles with the rather large deer and has to kick the deer out of her vehicle and quickly close the door to keep it out,” read a news release from the Howell police.
It has been said that residents of New Jersey are a fairly tough breed, and apparently that holds true for the animal residents of the state as much as the people.
Thankfully this woman was not seriously injured by the vengeful deer.
