De Blasio's 2020 Run off to Disastrous Start, Protesters' Chants Heard During Filming

New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s first interview as a presidential candidate was spoiled by his constituents chanting “Liar!” outside the studio.

The mayor announced his candidacy on Thursday, becoming the 23rd Democrat to enter the crowded field.

Since the field of Democratic hopefuls is jam-packed, de Blasio needed to stand out from his competition during his first media appearance on “Good Morning America” with host George Stephanopoulos.

But protesters — people who presumably have experienced de Blasio’s policies firsthand — chanted “Liar!” outside the studio.

The muffled chants could be heard inside the studio, and Stephanopoulos paused the interview at one point to address the crowd of protesters, according to The Hill.

“You say it’s a tough city. We’re hearing it outside, some protesters,” Stephanopoulos said. “A little serenade,” de Blasio joked.

Protesters on an escalator also trolled the mayor during his speech about the Green New Deal on Monday at Trump Tower.

Groups of protesters aren’t the only New Yorkers to oppose de Blasio’s run — the Trump family also spoke out against the mayor:

“I can’t believe it. I just heard that the worst mayor in the history of New York City, and without question, the worst mayor in the United States, is now running for president,” President Trump said in a Twitter video on Thursday.

“If you like high taxes and if you like crime, you can vote for him, but most people aren’t into that,” Trump added.

Eric Trump also went after de Blasio on Twitter, citing the city’s high crime rate and homelessness problem.

“First you have never created a job in your life. Second, our great city has gone to sh– under your leadership. Crime is up, the men & women of the NYPD detest you, homelessness is rampant, our streets are dirty and people are leaving our city in record numbers,” Trump tweeted.

Do you think Bill de Blasio's campaign is already doomed?

And Donald Trump Jr. posted a video Thursday showing evidence of New York City’s homeless problem, with trash, tents and garbage bags lining the city’s sidewalk.

“This video from this morning should tell you all you need to know about his ‘leadership.’ What a clown show!!!” Trump Jr. tweeted.

It doesn’t seem as if the Trump family is exaggerating about New York City’s problems, as it stands to reason protesters wouldn’t have plagued de Blasio’s interview and speech if his city were up to par.

Instead of wasting time and money on a doomed presidential run, de Blasio should spend time fixing his city.
