An Ohio store clerk handed a would-be robber an instant dose of justice after he beat the robber in a quick-draw contest.
WSYX reported that a man later identied as Emmanuel Hamm, entered the convenience store in Darbydale on Thursday evening. The clerk, who did not want to be identified, said Hamm, who was wearing a trench coat, looked suspicious.
He was right. Hamm pulled a gun out of the coat just seconds after he walked into the store, but the clerk was ready for him. As soon as he saw Hamm’s gun, the fired his pistol, shooting the gunman in the hand.
The clerk said the only thing he was thinking of was his family.
“That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the gun. I thought of my kids. Somebody thought it was an easy target and it wasn’t,” he told WSYX.
“It was really tough. It’s not easy to shoot someone, especially with someone who never had to deal with guns,” the clerk added.
He said he felt bad for Hamm, but added he didn’t have a choice in the matter.
WCNH reported that court records showed that Hamm was charged with aggravated robbery.

This video illustrates another reason why citizens need to be able to protect themselves from all kinds of danger. Had the clerk not had a gun, there is no telling how this situation might have ended up, but one thing is sure: Hamm will probably think twice before attempting to rob another store.
