On Friday in the small community of White Marsh in Baltimore County, Maryland, Christopher Harrison Jr., 28, poured gasoline on two white co-workers and set them on fire after a verbal altercation with them.
The three were reportedly together in a single vehicle when it broke down, and they proceeded to walk to a nearby gas station to purchase fuel. On the way back, however, an argument ensued.
According to a fourth coworker who apparently witnessed the incident, the white males kept “pushing and pushing” Harrison, who is black, to let them resolve the conflict with a fistfight until at last he finally accepted.
“They had agreed to settle it,” co-worker Anthony Rodriguez explained to WBAL. “Nothing besides that was said, even leading up to the altercation. They both took their shirts off and appeared like they were going to fight.”
But then Harrison did the unexpected and threw gasoline on them.
As the flames erupted, the two victims began bolting across the highway screaming for help, as Harrison stood there and simply watched.
Thankfully, bystander David Widener recorded the whole incident on his phone, so police had all they needed to charge him with attempted first-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment:
What’s odd is that when the most prominent news entity in that region of the country, The Baltimore Sun, reported the story, it omitted Harrison’s race.
Likewise, media outlets known for highlighting race-related crimes — Salon, The Huffington Post, MSNBC, etc. — made zero mention of Christopher Harrison Jr. and what he just did.
Al Sharpton has so far been silent, as well.
