Two days after the suspected Islamic terror attack at Ohio State University, University of California President Janet Napolitano, who previously served as President Barack Obama’s secretary of homeland security, ordered campus cops to leave illegal immigrants alone.
Specifically, the UC Office of the President announced “it will vigorously protect the privacy and civil rights of the undocumented members of the UC community and will direct its police departments not to undertake joint efforts with any government agencies to enforce federal immigration law.”
“While we still do not know what policies and practices the incoming federal administration may adopt … we felt it necessary to reaffirm that UC will act upon its deeply held conviction that all members of our community have the right to work, study and live safely and without fear at all UC locations,” Napolitano herself maintained in the statement.

Talk about being out of touch with reality.
While OSU attacker Abdul Razak Ali Artan was a Somali refugee and not an illegal immigrant, the broader point remained that instead of responding to his attack by urging her officers to keep a closer eye on non-citizens, Napolitano wanted to further relax campus security.
In a column published by The New York Times that very same day, Napolitano doubled down on this backward attitude, arguing that there was a precedent for directing her officers in such a manner.

“Prioritizing the use of resources in law enforcement is nothing new,” she claimed. “It is known as ‘prosecutorial discretion,’ and we can see it all around us.”
She argued in the piece that the police should focus on criminal aliens versus illegal “dreamers,” but the underlying lack of appreciation for the potential threats posed by all non-citizens still remained obvious.
Democrats en masse seem to care more about appeasing illegal immigrants, legal immigrants, refugees and “dreamers” than they do about upholding America’s national security — which in turn endangers natural American citizens as well as everyone else, including illegal immigrants.
Furthermore, it could be argued that it was this very same attitude that cost the Democrats the 2016 election — and that will cost them many more to come.
